Atomic Heart Gameplay

Now that 2023 is here, many gamers are excited to see what the future holds for the PC gaming industry. There are several highly anticipated games set to be released in the coming year, and here are our picks for the top 5 up coming Games of 2023.

Atomic Heart

This highly anticipated first person shooter by developer Mundfish looks to fill that Bioshock-shaped hole left in many people’s lives for some years.

Advances in robotics in the 1930s enabled the USSR to defeat Nazi Germany. These advances resulted in the automation of Soviet labour and the development of a proto-internet called the ‘Collectiv 1.0’, linking these robots to a collective hivemind, vastly increasing productivity and scientific advancement. Set in the Soviet Union in an alternate 1955,  Atomic Heart sees Major Nechaev navigate around Facility 3826, trying to keep the failed experiments at bay. Using the abilities granted by the experimental power glove, an arsenal of blades, and cutting-edge weaponry, fight for your life in explosive and frenetic encounters.

Ark 2

It’s been over five years since one of the best action-adventure survival games entered our lives. Studio Wildcard looks to do it again with Ark. They are overhauling the original concept and rethinking the game in pretty much every way.

Unlike the original, Ark 2 will feature a full story “Starring Vin Diesel (“Riddick”) as legendary ARK hero Santiago experiences an epoch-spanning adventure as he seeks to protect his daughter Meeka — voiced by Auli’i Cravalho (“Moana”) — from the ghosts of the ancient past and visions of a new future.”

The following significant change is the game can only be played in third person, compared to the previous one, which allowed the player to choose between first and third person. These changes might have some OG players annoyed. But, including new movement mechanics such as mantling, free-climbing parkour sliding, and swinging should sweeten the deal.

Another new addition to the sequel is “Souls-like melee combat”, which focuses more on player-skill-based action. The game uses target-lock, blocks, dodges, combos, staggers, and special attacks to improve melee combat.

Diablo IV

After a long 10-year wait, Diablo fans are getting a direct sequel to Diablo III, taking place 30 years after the previous instalment. Diablo IV looks to take fans back to Sanctuary to fight off monsters and stop the war-torn plain from being consumed by hatred at the hands of Lilith. Explore the five unique regions fighting monsters, scavenging for loot along the way, and exploring randomised dungeons.

There are some long waited features added into the sequel. The first is cross play and cross-progression, meaning you can fight the evils of Sanctuary with your friends no matter which platform they are on. With cross-progression, you can load your previous save on any platform and carry on from where you left off.

The next long-awaited feature is PvP (player vs player). These areas in the game will allow players to fight each other to gain unpurified Shards of Hatred. You can then spend this currency on PvP gear and rare cosmetic items. Players must do a ritual to be able to spend these shards. Sounds easy enough. While performing the ritual, you will be highlighted to players in your session. This feature will let other players know you are vulnerable and allow them to engage and steal your unpurified Shards of Hatred. Adding some extra suspense to the game.
